Student Paper Award

Description. The ASHE Student Paper Award honors the student who wrote the best sole-authored paper.

Eligibility. Applicants must be current Ph.D. students or have received their Ph.D. from a North American institution after July 1, 2004. The paper must be sole authored. The paper must either be accepted for presentation at the ASHE conference or be published (or forthcoming) in a peer-reviewed journal. As a condition of receiving this honor, the recipient must attend the ASHE conference.

Criteria. The Awards Committee will select the paper that makes the greatest contribution to health economics. The paper’s contributions may be theoretical, empirical, or methodological.

Materials. A complete submission will include both the paper and a nominating letter from the student’s advisor. Unpublished submissions should be similar in length and style to an article that might be published in a leading economics journal. Full dissertations will not be accepted.

Deadline. The deadline is 5:00 pm ET, April 1, in the year of the ASHE conference. Submissions must be sent electronically to Bill Swan (bill@healtheconomics.org).

Judging. The judging will be done in two stages. The chair of the Awards Committee will randomly assign each submitted paper to at least two committee members for an initial review. Based on the initial reviews, a final set of about three papers will be reviewed by the entire committee. The reviews will be blinded (only the committee chair will see the nominating letters). In the event of a conflict of interest, a new committee member will replace the member with the conflict. The replacement will be named by the committee chair, or in the event of the committee chair having a conflict, by a committee member selected by the chair.

3rd Biennial Conference: Cornell on June 20-23 2010
