School of Business, Economics and Law
Department of Economics

Position as
Professor of Health Economics
The School of Business, Economics and Law is recruiting a professor of health economics placed at
the Department of Economics. The Department of Economics has about 80 employees, and it hosts
the recently established Centre for Health Economics at the University of Gothenburg. The centre is
an organization for collaboration between institutions and researchers engaged in the healtheconomics
area at the University of Gothenburg, the Nordic School of Public Health, Chalmers
University of Technology, Region Västra Götaland, and the industry. It is a “centre without walls”,
and it is led by a director with office in the Department. Further information about the Department
can be found at www.economics.gu.se.

Job assignments:
We seek a researcher with the ability of building an internationally competitive research
environment in health economics within the Centre for Health Economics. The position involves
planning, conducting and leading research and teaching. Providing research information, planning
research projects and applying for grants are working tasks for the professor. The professor is also
supposed to cooperate with other health‐related sciences at the University and with other economic
sub‐disciplines at the Department as well as to interact with the surrounding society.
Assessment:
When making the appointment, special emphasis will be given to academic ability shown in
publications within the health‐economics field in leading international journals. The position requires
a close collaboration with other health‐related disciplines. Documented experience of such
collaboration is therefore a merit. Research related to the Department’s other profile areas is also of
merit. Pedagogical and administrative abilities are also taken into account, as is the experience of
interaction with the surrounding society. When assessing pedagogical skills, special emphasis is put
on teaching and supervision at the post‐graduate level. Having acted as main applicant at larger
applications and/or directing larger research projects in health economics is also a merit.
Closing date
21 May 2012
