If you need to submit your presentation (either as a presenter or discussant), email them to Patrick at admin@healtheconomics.org and include the Day, Session Title and Room in the email message. We will try to acknowledge receipt as quickly as possible.

Session information for Chairs, Presenters and Discussants

Chairs should ensure that all participants keep to their allotted time. Except for those few sessions with 4 presentations the allocation is:

Presenter: 18 minutes each
Discussant: 7 minutes each
Questions: 15 minutes total

Unless there is a compelling reason, such as a late arriving or early departing presenter, please have the papers presented in the order that they are listed in the program.

Student helpers are assigned to session rooms (in some cases one student will cover 2 rooms.

They have had some training with the systems. In case of a malfunction, contact the student, who in turn will either attempt to solve the problem or will have direct access to the IT staff.

NIH Grant Application Tips and Research Training Opportunities for Health Economists

Although NIH has traditionally funded health economics studies, new NIH Director Francis Collins has identified science to benefit health reform, including health economics, as one of the five research areas that are ripe for major advances. This session focuses on helping economists make the most of NIH's interest in these areas. In the first part of the session, NIH program officials Dave Clark and Gregory Bloss will present tips economists can use to write stronger applications, particularly in this era of enhanced peer review. They will be joined in their discussion by W. David Bradford, current member of the Health Services Organization and Delivery (HSOD) study section. Then, NIH program official Agnes Rupp will review the types of research training programs that are available at NIH, highlighting those that are most relevant for economists.

FDA 101: Overview of Key Regulatory Challenges and Research Agenda

This session will provide an overview of key regulatory provisions of FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. It will summarize important regulatory challenges facing CDER: Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA), FDA Amendments Act (FDAAA) with its expanded post-marketing safety mandate, and the potential new user fees for generics (GDUFA?). The presentation will also present CDER's research priorities in health economics and a discussion of possible data sources. The 30-40 minute presentation will conclude with a Q&A session.

Presentation Requirements

Presentation length: Irrespective of the number of abstracts, sessions are 1 hour and 30 minutes in total INCLUDING presentations, discussants, questions, preparation and wrap-up

Audio-visual Specifications

All session rooms come equipped with dedicated computer and a data projector. Due to time and resource limitations, presentations must be provided to our staff ahead of time so that it can be loaded into the appropriate room’s dedicated computer. Powerpoint and Adobe Acrobat Reader will be available on each dedicated computer. We ask that you ensure that your presentation is ready before loading since we will have a limited ability to deal with changes during the conference.

Posters

Specifications: Due to space limitations each poster is limited to a maximum dimension of 3 feet by 3 feet.

On each day posters may be put up as early as 8 AM and must be removed by 6 PM. Presenter's attendance at their posters is recommended during the posted break and lunch times, in addition to the specific 12:30 PM poster viewing time slot [CORRECTION].
