Assistant Professor Position

The Department of Health Management and Policy (HMP) at the University of Michigan is seeking a faculty member at the rank of assistant professor—within the field of health economics.  We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in global health, with a focus middle or lower income countries.  However, we welcome applications from diverse areas of health economics.  Combinations of areas of expertise are welcome and interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged.  Individuals who have or will complete degrees in economics, public health, health services, business, and related areas are encouraged to apply. The candidate should have a PhD by September 1, 2018.  Initial interviews will be conducted at the American Economic Association meetings; we will accommodate applicants not attending the meetings as needed.

We seek researchers with strong scholarly credentials and a promise of external research funding.   The faculty member will be expected to teach at the masters and doctorate level within HMP and may also teach in the School of Public Health’s undergraduate program. Finally, HMP values diversity as a necessary part of success in teaching, research, and leadership.  We encourage candidates to share their personal experiences of diversity with the committee.

HMP has a longstanding reputation for its contributions to design of the health care and public health system and has held the #1 position among health management and policy programs in the U.S. News and World Report rankings for over 20 years.  HMP faculty have evaluated the effect of health care initiatives, both large and small, and pioneered sustainable health financing methods.
