The Becker Friedman Institute for Research in Economics is now accepting applications for Health Economics Research Fellowships.
To stimulate innovative research that will deepen our understanding of health and health care markets and how they relate to the overall economy, the Becker Friedman Institute’s health economics research initiative awards funding to emerging scholars each year.
Fellows awarded this funding will conduct and collaborate in research on the economics of health and health care and interact with a large network of other economics scholars at the institute and throughout the University of Chicago.
The institute is now accepting applications for 2017–18 awards.
The program offers $25,000 stipends for:
- dissertation support for PhD students in the final stages of dissertation writing.
- research support for researchers who completed their PhD less than five years ago.
Selected fellows will be based at their home institution but will be required to:
- present health economics research in progress at the Emerging Scholars Roundtable and attend the initiative’s annual research conference from September 28–29, 2017 (transportation and lodging costs will be covered).
- submit a working paper to the Health Economics Series by the end of the 2017–18 academic year.
Eligibility
Students and scholars in economics, business, and public policy are encouraged to apply; applicants from other disciplines may be considered. Applicants can be from both US and international institutions.
To apply, submit a research proposal along with a brief abstract describing your proposed work, a brief biography outlining your research interests and experience, and a curriculum vitae. Applicants must also arrange for a faculty member to submit a letter of recommendation.
